Dr. Schaefer draws on his unique background for his work. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, and an M.S. in Engineering from Stanford University. He then completed his medical school education at the prestigious Emory University in Atlanta, where he graduated in the top 5 of his class. He then went on to his general surgery residency and fellowship training in plastic surgery, also at Emory University.

Dr. Schaefer built upon his training from renowned medical institutions to develop techniques with more natural outcomes, enhanced recoveries, and optimum patient safety.

With a focus on reconstructive and cosmetic surgery, Dr. Schaefer offers a wide variety of plastic surgery procedures. He is skilled in the surgical treatment of skin cancers, grafting techniques for reconstructive and cosmetic applications, breast surgery, and general trunk and lower extremity reconstructive surgeries. He’s well-versed in advanced facial plastic surgery techniques for eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), facelift, brow lift, neck lift, and more.

He is also known for his body contouring with the use of SAFELipo®, microsurgery, fat grafting, and his advanced reconstructive procedures.

What Will My Consultation Entail?

Your consultation is a crucial step for both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, which is why Dr. Schaefer will meet with you personally for your plastic surgery consultation. If you’re seeking a cosmetic procedure, your consultation will be complimentary. During this meeting, you will undergo a thorough medical examination and discuss why you want plastic surgery. If found to be a suitable candidate for plastic surgery, he and his professional staff will help you decide the best procedure most suited to your body and desired goals.

You may see examples of Dr. Schaefer’s work from before and after pictures of patients who had the same concerns and questions as you. He will let you know if your desired outcome is reasonable and advisable, or recommend alternatives and the reasons why. In addition, you will know just how long the procedure will take and what to expect during your recovery period. We believe deeply in informing our patients, so Dr. Schaefer gladly address any of your questions and concerns during your consultation.

He will clearly and concisely explain the procedure and what to expect. He will not rush you and will answer your every question about plastic surgery in detail. Dr. Schaefer has an invaluable staff of medical and administrative personnel who keep his practice running smoothly at Midwest Plastic Surgery.  His primary assistant is Lori Beck, RN. Lori started off as a cardiac nurse taking care of critically ill patients with complex heart conditions. After raising her two daughters, she reentered a life in medicine by joining the plastic surgery field. Today, she has over 20 years of medical experience. Lori has in-depth medical expertise as well as a compassion and a great ease with patients. She not only assists Dr. Schaefer in preparing patients for surgery and assisting with their recovery, she also serves as his care coordinator and scheduler. As a critical asset of Dr. Schaefer’s care, all of Dr. Schaefer’s patients get to know and appreciate Lori.
